The cork skin chosen is 100% vegan, including the glue. It even has a positive impact on our environment since the industry of cork provides protection against climate change – as the oak trees reduces the risk of fire and desertification. And thanks to the long life of an oak tree, a lot of CO2 is deposited in the woods.
- It is a natural, organic, renewable and biodegradable material, and 100% recyclable.

Stockholm based Bukvy was founded by Joanna Bark and Elena Ekström in 2015. It started with an idea of the ultimate bag. One bag in many forms, evolving as life does. Two friends with jobs on the run, living apart relationships, nights out, many activities in one day and too many things to carry. Two friends with bags, backpacks, totes and clutches to fit their daily belongings: computer, sketch block, wallet, lunch box, gym clothes, keys, books, snacks, glasses, phone, clothes and so on. Knowing each other already as kids, they dreamed about making the ultimate escape and survival bag. It needed to float, contain milkshake, fit life in space and hopefully a best friend.
They say: "Today our dreams are still big but in new ways. From what started as a longing to be on the run, a desire to be free and the satisfaction of knowing where your belongings are ended up in a life project. It has taken years of construction, discussion, craftsmanship and testing to get to the final result and it is with great pride we are giving you our ultimate bags. It is a small and focused collection made to simplify and organize the daily life of urban people through a combination of function and aesthetics."
All Bukvy items are made by hand and ethically produced in our carefully chosen studio in Porto, Portugal where people work under good conditions.
When we visited Stockholm in the summer of 2019, we were lucky enough to be able to visit the Bukvy shop/atelier and able to speak with one of the founder. It was such a great experience to be able to hear about the products and why they started the brand in person, while looking at the products which were all not only beautiful but practical and stylish at the same time. We got the impression that it really is so versatile and great for busy women. The idea that the shape changes according to the need is very important from a sustainable and ethical perspective as well. This way, as a result, you can choose well, and buy less. We also wanted to introduce BUKVY because of their emphasis placed on traceability of the production process too. BUKVY is definitely a brand with a great story and philosophy.
