A bridge between Dakar and Paris, Keur - or "house" in Wolof - offers a selection of home decor and accessories that are authentic and colorful, entirely made in Senegal.
Keur draws on the creative treasures of Senegal to infuse the products with joie de vivre and fantasy. Raised in Dakar, Alfi Brun was the youngest daughter of a large family, with a strong taste for fashion and decoration. In 2001, Alfi leaves to settle in France always remembering her fundamental benchmarks: Africa. In 2014, after working for many fashion and decoration houses, she starts the Keur brand in Paris, an interpretation that is both modern and faithful to the aesthetics of her childhood. Alfi draws inspiration from her country Senegal, and thanks to the carefully selected craftsmen, she makes and imports unique and radiant pieces which are unique and enhances the Senegalese craftsmanship.
Handcrafted and limited edition, Keur products celebrate a culture and ancestral know-how.
OUR TIPS
During our research for brands and products in Europe, we stumbled in to Keur Selections. When we heard that the person behind the brand was born and raised in Senegal and wanted to promote Fair trade through working with her country, we were really inspired by the idea. When we visited the shop in Paris, we were attracted even more. The original textile designs that they create are all very beautiful and charming; with patterns and colors that match very well. Chic and elegant; great way to accent your every day look as well!
Usable in the city as well as the beach. Each are unique piece. Handmade by the artisans of Keur.
[FEATURES] 100% cotton Made of graphic, colorful and chic Wax fabric.
What is wax fabric? African wax prints, are omnipresent and common materials for clothing in Africa, especially West Africa. They are industrially produced, colorful cotton cloths with batik-inspired printing. The wax prints are part of a nonverbal way of communication among African women, and hereby they carry their message out into the world. Some wax prints can be named after personalities, cities, building, sayings or occasions.
The method for the production of imitation batik cloth proceeds as follows. A block-printing machine applies resin to both sides of the fabric. It is then submerged into the dye, in order to allow the dye to repel the resin covered parts of the fabric. This process is repeated, to build up a colored design on the fabric.
